Mitt Romney in 2008?

I ran across a few articles [1] and web sites [2] that are trying to position Mitt Romney as a presidential candidate for 2008. And although they claim it’s very possible, I just am not sure someone like Romney will be able to win the Presidency.

Book Review: 1984

So I just finish “1984” by George Orwell. It’s a pretty amazing and unique book. I think there are many people familiar with this book. If you haven’t read the book, I’m sure you are at least familiar with one of the main concepts in the book: Big Brother.

Illegal Immigration Follow-up

I would like to submit a recent Orson Scott Card article as my follow-up to a recent post on illegal immigration.  His words could have easily been said by myself (with some minor differences), except with much less eloquence.  For the most part, I completely agree with what he says. My only issue is that…

The view from the center

Sometimes, someone comes along with a brilliant idea. And this idea is brilliant (http://www.viewfromcenter.com). I’ve contemplated it quite frequently and the author of this blog and I have discussed this multiple times in the past. I’m sure there are many, many Americans that would quickly jump on this bandwagon. Most everyone I speak with about…

Politics and Prostitution

Comments like this are the reason I and so many Americans loved Ronald Reagan: “Politics is supposed to be the second oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first.” He was brutally honest about the problems of his profession.

Indiscriminate Charity

Early morning here in Hawaii and I’m just readying through my usual blogs.  Quote of the day provided quite a profound phrase from Andrew Carnegie: “One of the serious obstacles to the improvement of our race is indiscriminate charity.” Although I would love to expound more on this, I will leave it as an exercise…

Immigration Protest

As much as I agree with Zac, I don’t know that the answer is to just send them all back and make them come here legally. As I mentioned in a previous post, I’m not sure I would act any differently given some of their circumstances. As much respect as I have for the law,…

Global Warming — Fact or Fiction?

So I learned something the other day. For the last several decades (more so in the 1980’s than in the last 16 years), we have heard warnings and cautions from scientists and environmental groups about global warming and the affects humans have on the environment. The other day, however, I read several articles. The most…

O, Canada… and the US Healthcare Crisis

Sometimes I wish I live in Canada. My employer is rolling out changes to our healthcare plan. “You now have more options,” they say. Which of course, we do. What they don’t tell you up front is that 2 of the 3 plans will cost you more than you are currently paying on a monthly…

Immigration Debate

So my brother over at Political and Philosophic Ponderings poses an interesting question: Are Latin American Immigrants Liberal or Conservative? He points out that morally speaking, they align more with conservative thought. But the Republican Party doesn’t appear to realize this huge potential voting resource. Instead, they ostracize them because they can’t look past the…
