Texas Legislature voting process

Watch the full video for some interesting behavior from the Texas Legislature. It seems that if someone is absent, whoever gets to their desk first votes for them. [youtube eG6X-xtVask] I wonder if this happens in the US Legislature as well?

American travel fund

Interesting quote from Rick Steves, a well known European traveler: “I think if the world knew what was good for it, it would establish a fund to pay for Americans all to have a free trip for six weeks, anywhere they wanted around the world upon graduation. It would be the best investment the world…

The Ornery American (OSC) thrashes the Republican Right on Immigration

Wow… Orson Scott Card thrashes on the Republican Right in his latest article on immigration. Check it out and see for yourself. I think he’s tired of trying to be logical because they aren’t listening. He’s just tossing dirt-clods now. Although he makes good points throughout.

Book Review: Team of Rivals

P. J. O’Rourke Quote

Sometimes, incredibly profound things are said: When buying and selling are controlled by legislation, the first things to be bought and sold are legislators. Now if we could just get the legislators to actually see this problem.

Book Review: Audacity of Hope by Barak Obama

I’ve learned over the last several years that I’m more of an Independent than a Republican. I have almost always voted Republican based on moral issues, but in recent years I’ve watched the division of the American people become a drastic chasm with no apparent bridge in site. What has really frustrated me is that…

Bill strips ethics-challenged legislators of pensions

So the new legislature is off to a solid start.  They passed a bill which strips the pensions of legislators convicted of ethics violations.  And it was unanimous!  The whole bipartisan thing seems to be working out. One word…. duh! Nice work folks.  Keep it up.
